Growing with Loyverse: JB Tech’s Practical Tips for Multi‑Store Retail
JB Tech began as a student side gig and has grown into a multi-location electronics retailer selling cell phones, laptops, and computers. The owner turned a steady buy-and-sell routine into a physical store four years ago and has since expanded to four branches. Early challenges—cash flow, inventory, and employee management—pushed them to look for a user-friendly POS, which led them to Loyverse. Today Loyverse helps JB Tech track real-time sales, manage inventory, and streamline operations as they plan further growth.
Tell us about your store - what do you sell and when did you open your store?
We started our retail store, JB Tech, four years ago. We sell electronic gadgets such as cell phones, laptops, and computers. Although the store officially opened four years ago, the business actually began while I was in college; I was buying and reselling phones throughout my studies until we opened a physical location. We have now expanded to four stores and are constantly working to grow the business.
What were some of the challenges that you faced when you opened the physical store and how did you overcome them?
At first this was just a side gig while I was a student and needed extra income. I would buy second-hand phones and resell them at a markup to earn a profit. Over time I saw the business potential and decided to open a store. We really started from scratch — I had no one to ask for advice about running a business. It was especially hard managing cash flow, inventory, and employees. Starting a business with no prior experience was a real challenge; my studies were in engineering, not business management, so I had to learn as I went.
Did this push you to search for a POS system since the beginning of the business?
We began with manual receipts, recording sales in a logbook. Later we tried Excel, but it was inefficient and too time-consuming. I wanted something easier to use, so I searched online and on social media for a POS system — that’s how I discovered Loyverse.
Was Loyverse the first POS system that you implemented in your shop?
Yes, Loyverse was the first POS we used. When researching POS options, I looked for review pages recommending user-friendly systems. One of my main requirements was ease of learning so it wouldn’t take long to master. I tried Loyverse and found its interface exactly as user-friendly as I had hoped.
How was the onboarding process with Loyverse? Did your employees adapt quickly to the system?
Initially, only I used the system. Employees would write purchased products and totals on receipts, and I would enter the sales into Loyverse. Once I became comfortable with the system and found it easy to navigate, I trained my employees. They were able to learn the system very quickly, which benefited the business.
Which are some of Loyverse’s features that you rely on daily?
We use the Loyverse POS app daily to record sales and the Back Office to monitor performance. I particularly value seeing real-time sales in the Back Office and the variety of reports Loyverse provides, such as sales by item, category, and payment type (we accept multiple payment methods). We also use the Advanced Inventory features: initially I struggled with inventory management, and Loyverse has been a big help in tracking inventory flow in real time. One of my favorite reports is the Inventory Valuation report.
Have you implemented the Loyalty program for your customers?
We are registering customers in our database by name and phone number, but we have not yet activated the Loyalty program feature. We may activate it in the future.
Is there any feature missing in Loyverse that would be useful for your business?
Overall, I’m very satisfied with what Loyverse offers. One specific need for our business is tracking unique IMEI codes for phones. Every time we receive new stock, we add each phone as a separate item in the item list so we can identify the IMEI of each device. I realize this is specific to our business type; we’re used to this workflow now, and it doesn’t interfere with daily operations.
You also mentioned that you accept payment by installment, but Loyverse does not have such a feature currently. How are you managing this?
We added an additional payment type in Loyverse for installments, but installments are managed by our partners. On receipts we simply select the payment type “installment — [partner name].”
What are your plans for the future of JB Tech?
We plan to expand further and open new branches. I’m motivated every day by seeing my team happy — this business has created opportunities for us.
What advice do you have for the readers of this interview and other entrepreneurs in terms of managing a new business?
My advice is to learn how to manage cash flow, accounting, and inventory early on. When I started, I focused mainly on sales and marketing and learned the hard way that the operational side is critical. I continue to learn and improve our processes. Now I focus on structure and efficiency, and Loyverse has had a significant positive impact on that progress.
