In this interview, we speak with Ye Myat Thu, owner of Golden Brew—a specialty café located in the heart of a corporate compound in Myanmar. He shares how his passion for quality coffee and data-driven decision-making led him to start his business and choose Loyverse POS. When, how, and why did you start your business? And what is it about?

I opened a café where we sell coffee, a variety of beverages, pastries, and cakes. The shop is located inside a corporate compound owned by one of the largest private banks in Myanmar.

Before opening the café, I asked around among friends about POS solutions. In Myanmar, most shops use local POS systems, but I’m someone who’s very detail- and data-oriented. I wanted a system that could give me clear reports and insights. That’s how I found out about Loyverse POS—through word of mouth. I tried the free trial before officially launching the business, and in the end, I decided to use Loyverse as my POS system.

What makes your business different from other coffee shops?

Our biggest advantage is our location—we’re inside a corporate compound, while the nearest other café is about a 15-minute walk or a short drive away. That gives us a unique positioning, and we don’t have to push sales too hard.

That said, being inside a corporate compound also means we have some limitations. We're open only Monday to Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Beyond the location, what really makes us stand out is our pastry offerings, especially our signature cheese lava cake, which is very popular. I have a supplier for the cake, and it pairs well with our coffee, which I personally calibrate.

I’m not someone who does "farm to cup," but I have my own trusted bean suppliers, a unique storage method, and a specific timeline for roasting. That attention to detail in coffee preparation also helps set us apart from competitors.

What are your favorite features in Loyverse?

On a daily basis, our cashier simply inputs customer orders. One of the features I like the most is the discount option. For example, every Monday we offer flat-rate discounts on all coffee items, and Loyverse makes that very easy to manage.

But the most valuable feature for me is the ability to view and export sales data in different formats. This allows me to perform detailed back-office analysis. That’s the main reason I love using Loyverse.

Do you have any suggestions for how Loyverse could be improved?

In our country, POS systems and integrations are still in early stages. So far, what Loyverse offers is a perfect fit for my day-to-day operations. I’m very happy with the features as they are right now.

What advice would you give to someone who wants to start their own business?

I used to work a regular 9-to-5 white-collar job. This café is my first personal business venture.

My advice to any aspiring entrepreneur is: data is everything. You really need a POS solution that can give you the exact data you need, whenever you need it. Having that kind of insight is essential for making smart decisions, especially when you’re just starting out.
