There are so many advantages to using a QR code menu ordering system in a restaurant or cafe, and if your business isn’t using one yet and you are keen to find out, you have come to the right place!

Today, we will learn exactly what a QR code menu is. Then we’ll dig into the many great reasons to introduce one into your restaurant.

What is a QR Code Menu?

In the post-pandemic world that we live in today, restaurants and cafes are offering QR code menus to take their customers’ orders. It’s an excellent solution for hospitality businesses to promote contactless ordering, increase table turns and have a more accurate and streamlined ordering process.

The QR code is a square image that looks like a barcode in a grocery store. QR codes make it easy for smartphone users to visit a website. With this, customers don’t have to enter letters and numbers into their phones manually. When customers scan the image using their smartphone, they are automatically brought to a website or app where the code is translated into readable menu information that they can browse easily at their phones. Diners can browse food and drink options from their device without touching a paper menu.

Not only can your customers see the menu, but they can also select the items they want to order and pay on their mobile phones - a completely contactless ordering experience. It eliminates the need for printed, physical menus in restaurants.

Why use a QR code menu in a restaurant?

There are numerous compelling reasons to opt for a QR code menu in a restaurant. Here, we've compiled a list of 12 reasons that we believe make a strong case for why QR code menus are a great choice.

1. No more menu sharing between customers

Want to give your customers peace of mind while streamlining their dining experience? Look no further than QR code menus! They minimize physical contact between customers and make it easier for groups to look at the menu and decide on their orders without passing around a physical menu.

Display those QR codes in prominent spots (tables, walls, or even printed on the placemats)  throughout your restaurant, and watch your customers easily scan and browse your mouth-watering offerings. So let’s make dining out safer and more enjoyable with QR code menus – your customers will thank you!

2. Reduce printing costs

Are you tired of shelling out big bucks every time your menu changes? Say goodbye to those pesky printing costs and hello to QR code menus! With a digital menu, updating your offerings is a breeze. No more crossing out items or reprinting entire menus – simply make the changes digitally as they arise, and you're good to go as they get updated in real-time.

So why waste time and money on print menus when you can have the convenience and flexibility of a QR code menu? Upgrade now and keep your customers’ taste buds happy!

3. Lesser staff contact with customers

Today, as much as possible, we want to keep our physical interactions to a minimum. So why not take things to the next level and offer your customers a contactless dining experience with a QR code menu? In short, with a QR code menu, your staff no longer have to wait at your customers' tables to hand over the menu and manually take their orders.

Not only will this keep your staff and customers safer, but it also adds a touch of futuristic flair to your establishment. And if you want to go all out, consider setting up a collection point system where customers can grab their orders without coming into contact with a server.

So let’s make dining out as safe and stress-free as possible with QR code menus and strategic collection points – your customers will appreciate the peace of mind, and you’ll be ahead of the game!

4. Increase order values

Did you know that customers tend to spend more when they order digitally? Yup, it’s true – in fact, you could increase your average order value by up to 30% just by offering online ordering.

And the best part? No more awkward upsells or rushed decision-making! Customers who order from a digital menu can take their time browsing and adding items without feeling pressured or embarrassed. So let’s make ordering a breeze and watch those sales soar.

5. Faster table turnover

We know how tough it can be to keep things moving smoothly without making your customers feel rushed. That’s why QR code menus are the perfect solution to make everyone happy!

No more waiting for a server to take their order – your customers can whip out their phones and start perusing the menu as soon as they're seated. And if you really want to speed things up, you can also let them order beforehand. That way, their meal will be ready and waiting as soon as they sit down.

But wait, there’s more! With a QR code menu, customers can easily add extra items during their meal without flagging down a server.

6. Update menu items easily and frequently

Running out of ingredients can be a real pain, especially when you have to break the news to your hungry customers that their favorite dish is off the menu for the night. But fear not, because updating your offerings is a breeze with a digital menu!

No more awkward conversations or disappointed customers – just a quick update to your digital menu, and everyone knows exactly what’s available. So why not save yourself the hassle and upgrade to a digital menu today?

7. Better menu design

With a digital menu, you can highlight your most popular items and make them stand out, increasing the chances that your customers will order them. And that’s not all – a well-designed digital menu can also lead to higher order values and better conversion rates, making it a win-win for everyone involved.

So why settle for a boring old paper menu when you can have a sleek, user-friendly digital menu that’s sure to impress?

8.Attract customers with appetizing food pictures.

Customers decide with their eyes, but space is often limited on print menus, which is why there are no pictures of the food. A great photo of your mouth-watering burgers with all the trimmings will catch people’s attention and entice them to order them. You can include images with as many menu items as you wish with a digital menu.

9. Improve customer experience and enhance customer satisfaction

With a QR code menu, your customers can easily access your menu on your website or app without any hassle. This means they control their order, selecting exactly what they want to eat and drink without miscommunication or forgotten items. Plus, it frees up your staff to focus on hospitality rather than administrative tasks and reduces the chances of errors.

And here’s the best part: consumers love contactless ordering! In fact, a recent study shows that 80% of pub-goers who have used digital tools to order food and drinks want to keep using them in the long-term. So give your customers what they want and upgrade to a QR code menu!

10. Promote app downloads

If you’re printing out flyers for a QR code menu, why not also include a prompt to download your restaurant’s app too? Customers will have their smartphone in their hand to scan the QR code, meaning there’s no better time to get your app download promotion than when it’s right in front of them.

11. Collect customer data

Let's put a smile on that data collection! With QR code ordering, you're not only making it super easy for customers to place their orders, but you're also able to collect their contact details seamlessly. Customers provide an email address or mobile phone number as part of their order journey, which you can capture in your system and use to market to them in the future, driving loyalty and retention. This means you can keep in touch with them in the future, sending promotions and special offers that will keep them coming back for more of your delicious food!

And let's remember the magic of data - with every order, you'll learn more about your customers, their preferences, and what makes them tick. It's like having a secret recipe for success that only you know!

12. Build brand awareness on social media

When your customers are scrolling through your online menu on their phone, they can easily share their excitement about your food or brand on social media.

Disadvantages of QR Code Menu Ordering System

Disadvantages.jpg.30b5ee243687801047dbef31c9955362.jpg

Can be inconvenient. QR codes require a smartphone with the ability to scan the code. Some modern phones have the ability built in to their camera, but oftentimes the user has to download an app. Some users may also rely on non-smartphones, or simply don’t have their phone on them.
Requires internet connection. QR codes also require an internet connection in order to function. People with otherwise-compatible smartphones may have low signal or no access to Wi-Fi, preventing them from accessing whatever is behind the QR code.
Distrust and unfamiliarity. For many people even now, QR codes are fairly new technology. It can be unclear what the user is supposed to do, and tech-savvy people may not want to scan codes that lead them to an unfamiliar site where their personal information could be put at risk.
One-way communication. A QR code is by nature a one-way communication tool. Which means that overreliance on the QR code can lead to a breakdown between you and the person you are trying to reach. It may not the ideal tool for, say, customer support.

So question on this app.  I see it pulls the items info from Loyverse.  But when an order is placed, it is received in the app only.  From there, we have to manually accept the order within the Orderlina App, and then enter it into Loyverse.  So we have to manage yet another app for orders?  I was hoping for something that integrates within Loyverse itself.  So when a client generates an order via the QR code, a ticket is created in Loyverse and sent to print / KDS.

I tried it. Good by itself, but the double work was a deal breaker. Also it would be great if the customer automatically became part of your customers. That way you can give them first time order offers etc.

I tried this and i was trying to figure out why it dont send to kitchen printer. Then i came and read the post by Mezani and realise it is going to be a double work. Otherwise everything works fine, but the integration should be more complete which i can then pickup the ticket and pay at the counter
