I have a Socket 7Qi/7Ci (Bluetooth) connected with android tablet. Scanner works fine and is connected as HID. When I want to change some items, the onscreen display does not show up. When scanner is not connected it appears. How to have both scanner connected an keyboard showing up when editing?

Hello there,

Using a software keyboard on an Android tablet while connecting a barcode reader via HID (Human Interface Device) mode can be tricky because Android often disables the software keyboard when a physical keyboard (or HID device) is connected. Here’s how to ensure you can use both the barcode scanner and the software keyboard:

Method 1: Enable Software Keyboard in Settings

1. Open Android Settings:

• Go to Settings > System or General Management (depending on your Android version).

2. Access Keyboard Settings:

• Navigate to Languages & Input > Physical Keyboard or Keyboard Settings.

3. Toggle On “Show Virtual Keyboard”:

• Look for an option like Show On-Screen Keyboard or Show Virtual Keyboard when a physical keyboard is connected.

• Turn this option ON.

Method 2: Use a Keyboard Shortcut

If the software keyboard still doesn’t appear:

1. Manually Invoke the Keyboard:

• Tap on a text field where you want to type.

• Press the keyboard icon on the bottom-right of the navigation bar or in the notification shade to bring up the on-screen keyboard.

Method 3: Use a Third-Party Keyboard App

1. Install a keyboard app like Hacker’s Keyboard, SwiftKey, or Gboard from the Google Play Store.

2. Many third-party keyboards have better support for simultaneous use with HID devices.

3. Go to the keyboard app’s settings and enable options to keep the software keyboard visible.

Tips for Compatibility

• Check the barcode scanner’s manual for Android-specific configurations.

• Ensure the Android version on your tablet is up-to-date, as newer versions have better HID support.

• Consider using apps that support both keyboard and barcode input, like inventory management or POS apps.

By following these steps, you should be able to use the software keyboard while the barcode reader is connected. Let me know if you need further assistance!
