When to use modifiers vs variants?

Hello Ya’all

when would you use modifier and when variants?

example:

we are selling burritos. You can choose minced beef, mango chicken, or fish. 
would you use variant or modifiers in that case?

 

another examples is wine. You can get 150ml or 250, or a bottle. 
is that a variant or modifier? And why would you pick the type?

generally variants are the same item but different option - ie in retail, it might be a pair of Nike Trainers - but the variants are the different sizes of shoe. or possibly a jumper and the variants are the different colour and then size (please note there is only one level of variants so the colour and size is a single variant)

modifiers is where there are options to the item - ie in a sandwich it might be different bread type, fillings etc. you can also add a modifier to numerous products.  

so for you Burritos - modifier

Wine - if you arent using advanced inventory (where you can control stock fully - please see https://help.loyverse.com/help/how-work-production) i would personally set up the 150ml,250ml or bottle as seperate items or variants - so the master product is WINE PINOT for example, and the variants are 150ml,250ml, bottle - complete with different prices on each.
