The restaurant and its speciality of cochinillo asado (roast suckling pig) are mentioned in the Ernest Hemingway's novel The Sun Also Rises. But a few other restaurants throughout Europe contend the title.Stiftskeller St Peter, situated in a monastery in Salzburg, Austria, claims to have been around as an inn serving food since 803. Mike Taylor Posted March 30, 2018 Share Posted March 30, 2018 I read that Honke Owariya is the oldest restaurant in the world. It established in 1465 during the Muromachi period, in Kyoto, Japan. It was started as a confectionary, and after transforms to traditional Japanese soba noodles restaurant. Original restaurant Honke Owariya Nowadays Honke Owariya is a restaurant chain it has four branches. Original restaurant located near the Old Imperial Palace. And three other in the Kyoto downtown (Shijo and Takashimaya). Original restaurant has authentic old traditional interior and atmosphere and has attractive for tourists.
